This summer we're taking the Summer Classic back under the stars at the Ford Theater which has just returned from full renovation! It still features an intimate space ensconced in the natural beauty of the canyon. But they've hired the best of the best among historic preservation architects to help revitalize the Ford and make improvements without changing the Ford’s vibe. What will you find when you check out the Ford this summer? A new stage, better lighting, better sound. A new picnic terrace with more dining options. And, best of all, the Flypoet Summer Classic.

Spoken Word is poetry explicitly written to be performed onstage, rather than read from the page. As an art form it focuses on the aesthetics of word play, intonation and voice inflection. While often associated with hip-hop culture, it also has strong ties to storytelling, modern poetry, post-modern performance, and monologue theatre, as well as jazz, blues, and folk music. It can be can be dynamic, comedic, dramatic or tragic and often contains references to current events and issues relevant to contemporary audiences. At its best spoken word is a powerful, high-energy, form of expression that attracts artists and audiences of all ages from a wide range of disciplines and socio-cultural backgrounds.
This is NOT your neighborhood open mic! Flypoet takes spoken word so far beyond the concept of coffee house open mics that even people familiar with spoken word are usually in awe of what we do. Flypoet only books the hottest internationally touring poets out today. Flypoet performers have performed at the White House and for Oprah; They have won national spoken word competitions, titles and even Grammy Awards; They have been featured on TED, HBO Def Poetry, Versus and Flow and beyond. Flypoet offers a highly curated experience with high production value and flair for the creative. Prepare to be SEVERELY entertained.
All seating is reserved fixed seats that you can choose from a map on the box office website. Wherever you sit you are close! This is a beautifully intimate venue. The Ford's back row would be within many larger venue's orchestra section. For more info CLICK HERE for our seating video.
The Ford Theater is the best venue but parking can be a challenge. EARLY ARRIVAL IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED
Onsite parking at the Ford is very limited. Parking is stacked for summer season shows and there is no early exit. The Ford is nestled in the Hollywood Hills, in a County regional park. As such, the terrain is hilly and some of the parking lots require a bit of a walk to the front gates. We highly recommend patrons carpool, consider a ride sharing service or take the Metro. If parking onsite, please arrive early to ensure availability.

Parking Rates:
Summer Season evening shows - $10 - Carpool and save! Cars with three or more passengers receive a $5 discount. - Cash only, please.

Parking is $12, cash only. Pay at the garage. No reservations are required.

NEW Nonstacked Off-site Parking Location:
3330 Cahuenga Blvd. West Los Angeles, CA 90068 Note, parking lot is adjacent to Panasonic.

Picking up the Shuttle:
The shuttle pick-up location is on Cahuenga Blvd., directly in front of the parking lot. Look for Ford Theatres signage. Shuttle picks up begin two hours before show time and run in 20-minute intervals. Shuttle pick-ups end approximately 30 minutes after show time. The shuttle does not run throughout the show. Riders can pick up the shuttle to return to the garage at the end of the night by the Ford Theatres front gates; Ford guest services staff will assist. The shuttle and parking lot are wheelchair accessible.
YES! Dining options are available onsite or you can bring your own food and beverage (wine and beer are permitted) for preshow picnicking in the terraced entryway or snacking in your seat during the performance. Please note that that there are no tables in the amphitheatre and that all picnic coolers, baskets, etc. need to be small enough to fit under your seat so as not to block any walkways. Click Here for more info.
No. Some of the performers use strong language and/or adult themes and content. In my personal opinion: A mature older teen with a liberal parent would be fine.
