FAQ
Words Are Dope by Flypoet will follow all COVID-19 related requirements as defined by the State of California, County of Los Angeles and/or Second Home Hollywood.
Yes and no. You can expect the same high quality spoken word swag Flypoet is famous for but in a more intimate setting and with a different format that focuses more on going in depth with one exceptional poet vs showcasing a few. The event will also include a live DJ, live music and performance art. You should still prepare to be SEVERELY entertained!
Yes food and drinks will be available for purchase. Second Home features a full bar with curated craft cocktails. Their onsite cafe will also have some food/snack options available.
Spoken Word is poetry explicitly written to be performed onstage, rather than read from the page. As an art form it focuses on the aesthetics of word play, intonation and voice inflection. While often associated with hip-hop culture, it also has strong ties to storytelling, modern poetry, post-modern performance, and monologue theatre, as well as jazz, blues, and folk music. It can be can be dynamic, comedic, dramatic or tragic and often contains references to current events and issues relevant to contemporary audiences. At its best spoken word is a powerful, high-energy, form of expression that attracts artists and audiences of all ages from a wide range of disciplines and socio-cultural backgrounds.
There is limited onsite parking available for $15. Due to the limited nature of the parking we recommend Uber/Lyft and carpooling whenever possible.
Is this show suitable for children
No. Some of the performers use strong language and/or adult themes and content. In my personal opinion: A mature older teen with a liberal parent would be fine though we aim for 21+
